Viewing Guidance
The screen center is close to your selected eye line.
Ask Artesoft About This PlacementMeasurements refer to the TV screen, not the wall bracket. VESA hole placement varies by model, so calculate the bracket position from the back of your actual TV before drilling. This tool does not verify studs, anchors, wall condition, heat exposure, or manufacturer clearances.
How it works
What The Calculator Measures
The calculator first estimates the physical height of a 16:9 television from its diagonal size. It then places the center of the screen at your selected viewing line.
If furniture or fireplace clearance requires a higher position, the tool raises the screen and calculates the resulting upward viewing angle. This makes the tradeoff visible before holes are drilled.
Use real room measurements
- Measure eye height while sitting where you normally watch.
- Measure horizontally from your eyes to the TV wall.
- Measure the top of any console, soundbar, mantel, or obstruction.
- Enter the TV's advertised diagonal screen size.
- Mark the calculated outline with painter's tape and test it from the seat.

TV Screen Height Chart
These dimensions assume a standard 16:9 screen. The final mounting height still depends on your eye level, room, and clearance requirements.

| 32 inches | 15.7 inches | 34.2 inches | 49.8 inches |
| 43 inches | 21.1 inches | 31.5 inches | 52.5 inches |

Room-specific planning
When The Calculated Height Needs Adjustment
Furniture and soundbars
A console or soundbar can force the bottom of the TV higher. Enter the top of the highest obstruction plus the gap you want. Check device ventilation and soundbar clearance before finalizing the height.
Bedrooms
A bedroom TV may sit higher because the viewing position is reclined. Measure eye height from your normal pillow position and test a modest upward angle instead of relying on standing measurements.
Fireplaces
Mantel height and manufacturer heat clearances can push a television well above eye level. When the calculator reports a steep viewing angle, consider a pull-down mount or a different wall. Review Artesoft's TV over fireplace installation information before choosing a mount.
Wire and outlet planning
The selected height affects the outlet, HDMI route, device location, and soundbar position. Plan TV wire concealment before installation rather than after the screen is mounted.
Common questions
TV Mounting Height FAQ
What is the standard height for mounting a TV?
A common starting point is to place the center of the TV near seated eye level, often around 40 to 44 inches from the floor in a living room. Your actual eye height and furniture clearance are more useful than a universal number.
Does TV size change the recommended center height?
Not necessarily. Two TVs can share the same center height, but the larger screen extends farther up and down. That changes furniture clearance and may require lowering or raising the center.
Is the calculated center height where I drill the bracket?
No. It is the center of the visible screen. Wall-bracket height depends on the VESA holes and mounting hardware on your exact television. Measure the back of the TV before drilling.
How high should a TV be mounted above a fireplace?
The TV must satisfy mantel, fireplace, and television manufacturer clearances, but those requirements can create an uncomfortable viewing angle. Enter the required bottom clearance and consider a pull-down mount if the resulting angle is steep.
Should I hire a professional to mount the TV?
Professional installation is useful when the wall material, TV weight, fireplace, metal studs, wire concealment, or bracket measurements create uncertainty. Artesoft provides professional TV mounting across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.
